A GUIDE TO SUBMITTING MUSIC
If you are reading this page, you are probably a musician or band or are a recording company.
WXRY does accept unsolicited submissions. This doesn’t guarantee that we will play them. We get hundreds of CD’s a week from major labels, major independents, self-publishers and the like. In other words, we get a lot of music.
Our primary format is alternative music (the genre) focused on adults. You’ve probably figured that out by looking at our playlist.
Our secondary focus is on local and regional music that is more or less compatible with our primary format. Local means the artist of group has a connection to the Columbia Metropolitan area. Our regional focus extends to the State of South Carolina and the Southeastern United States. Unsigned artists outside of these areas are given less consideration for airplay in our regular format.
WXRY Discovery (Sunday nights at 8:00) is our local and regional music specialty program. Randy Borawski is the producer and music director for the program. Randy will also consider artists and groups outside of the Southeastern region. He does listen to all submissions.
Preferred format for submissions:
Links to high-quality electronic files (.wav or 256kbps 44.1khz or better mp3).
Email minimum 128kbps 44.1khz mp3′s for review or provide a link for download. If we like it, we will request a higher-quality file.
Physical CD (if you really must go through the expense).
We are unable to broadcast mp3 files less than 256kbps 44.1kz sampling rate because the sound quality degrades and is unacceptable on our digital audio streams.
PRESS KITS:
It is unnecessary to go through the expense and trouble of sending press kits, headshots, glossys and the like. Space limitations prevent us from storing any of that material. A link to your facebook/myspace/reverbnation, etc. EPK is sufficient. It is cheaper for you and more convenient for us! Candy and cookies (especially white chocolate macadamia nut) are always appreciated, otherwise it is unnecessary to mail or ship tchotchke.
MUSIC NOT CONSIDERED:
We do not consider and do not air music in the following genres: jazz, mainstream/Nashville country, contemporary Christian, gospel, traditional or contemporary R & B, rap or hip-hop.
INTERVIEWS:
We generally limit in-studio appearances on weekdays to artists we are currently playing in regular rotation in our primary music format or who are performing in an event or activity that our station is sponsoring or is with one of our sponsors.
On WXRY Unsigned, the on-program appearances are limited to live appearances during the program broadcast on Sunday nights at 8:00, or the “Serious Interview” video feature on the WXRY Unsigned Youtube Channel. Contact program producer Randy Borawski for more information.
In all cases, WXRY rarely conducts “phoner” interviews. Telephone interviews generally lack the spontaneity and entertainment value of an in-studio appearance.
